Environmental and Sustainability Policy
The environment has become an increasingly important issue within the construction industry. It has begun to affect our everyday lives and the way we conduct commerce in the modern world. New buildings are now being scrutinized for their environmental sustainability and impact. It is up to the modern construction industry to achieve the lowest environmental impact possible and create sustainable buildings. We acknowledge the responsibility for our impact on the environment and we regard various environmental considerations as a fundamental part of our operations. These considerations are important for us in continuing to operate in an ecological friendly way for a modern construction firm. We inevitably have an impact on the environment in a number of ways and always attempt to minimise the potentially harmful effect of these activities wherever possible. As a consequence we are committed to our continuous improvement in terms of environmental performance and prevention of pollution.
We are dedicated to reducing our own impact on the environment and as an organisation that is involved in many large scale projects it is of extreme importance that we have a positive effect on our global environment. We have realised that the environment and people are closely linked and therefore we attempt to care for both. We will always do our best to manage our own overall environmental impact by encouraging various initiatives focused on sustainability and protection of the environment throughout the construction process. In this we will always aim to achieve the lowest environmental impact possible on any site.
Sustainability and reduction in waste are bywords for a happy and productive working environment. This is particularly important for a growing organisation in a future that is in desperate need of a healthier environment. In order for us to stay ahead of this and to push the necessary boundaries, we have made a commitment that will focus on the most important issues to ensure a safer environment for everyone. In this we will always determine the main impacts and various potential adverse effects of our actions on the environment. We will always strive to minimize these impacts throughout our business operation including our supply chain. This is done through the promotion of care and continuous improvement with additional efforts in advocating efficient material use and resources. We will also endeavour at the same time to reduce waste through re-use and recycling or using recyclable or refurbished products and materials where they are available, economical and suitable.
As part of our commitment to environmental improvement this we will always request any and all packaging to be removed by our suppliers before delivery if there is a possibility of doing so. We also request that all pallets used as part of the materials deliveries are recyclable. We provide off site prefabrication and cutting of metal studwork, plasterboard and timber grounds to minimise dust and waste generated on site. We make certain that all timber used throughout our projects is FSC certified. Large amounts of our equipment have vacuum attachments involved with dust reduction features to minimise and extract the dust at the source and lower overall dust levels on site. These efforts help us minimize our environmental impact and further our goals of becoming a more ecologically conscious construction firm.
The aim in all of our waste management strategies is maximise productivity while minimizing potential waste. In this we follow the three R’s of waste management : Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is the way we really classify waste management strategies in terms of their desirability in waste management. In this regard, we will always attempt to prevent any waste being formed or to minimize waste, whenever this is not possible. If at the end there are still large amounts of waste energy recovery then careful disposal is taken place. All waste that is generated is moved to a designated waste collection area. Collections of hazardous waste are taken care of with a more thorough and careful hand. All general waste is placed into designated bins on site for our teams and in bins under desks or external marked bins at the office. Scrap metal is disposed of in suitably marked containers and then disposed of by authorized and specialized individuals. Electrical usage is also monitored with lights being turned off after hours and all desktops switched off at the end of working hours. All timber that is purchased is acquired from sustainable sources. Timber that is no longer fit for purpose is analysed and repurposed to become useful wherever possible. When no further modifications are possible, any waste generated from this process is subsequently disposed of. Any packaging received from suppliers is reused and if it is not possible we will dispose of it properly through our waste management program. Below are all the various waste management strategies currently in place to help further deal with the waste we generate in an environmentally conscious manner.
Cleanliness and tidiness have always been an important facet of our business. We have always worked to cultivate these areas and to make effective use of all materials, supplies and energy. In this manner we employed and operated on a clean as you work basis. Each task is accessed and resources for waste removal will be present before the site commences. The access routes will be maintained with various exclusion zones set up and maintained. We always seek to minimise the creation of waste by avoiding unnecessary wastage of materials and if possible recycling materials that cannot be directly reused as far as seems reasonably practicable. We also mandate that worksite teams are required to always minimise their waste creation and cooperate actively with the various recycling programs. Waste collection points are always kept clean and in an accessible condition. Where waste is created it shall be safely placed in an appropriate storage container and with special care to not overload the storage. These methods of ensuring site cleanliness is an important part of any function on site.
Dedication and commitment to sustainability is an important part of our business management. It is our duty to integrate and balance the social, environmental and economic considerations with the goal of building a better quality standard of environmental protection for the industry as a whole. In this our objectives are as follows : It is our goal to minimize our environmental impact through efficient use of resources in all our operations. We always aim to preserve or even enhance the natural environment wherever possible. We take responsibility for our actions and adhere to a strict code of corporate ethics. We always ensure to provide and construct safe and healthy working environments.
These objectives are important to our functions yet they are meaningless without our actions to achieve these goals. We have various ways of cultivating these objectives and obtaining the desired outcomes. We constantly develop our sustainability policy to meet our unique needs and abilities. In this we have created a positive culture of environmental awareness and responsibility. In this all of our teams and management are taught and driven by induction, education, and training. We also measure progress constantly to facilitate this continuous improvement. In maintaining this we always have an open communication line with the local community to have feedback from the client and community. We also ensure that every subcontractor and suppliers we cooperate with is environmentally acceptable by ensuring they run appropriate systems.
Many of the procedures and processes run by us are done with the current economic situation in mind. We always strive to lessen our impact but we are not always able to due to the current circumstances in place by the market. Even during this though we are always striving to find new ways to effectively and affordably lessen our impact on the environment even when these policies are not standard within the industry. We always strive to move past the established construction norms and that is not only in terms of quality but also in our environmentally conscious business actions.
In promoting these functions and objectives we have various methods for avoiding and minimizing adverse environmental impacts on all habitats of nature and conservation value. We do this by preventing pollution to any river in accordance with our main ecological protection measures. We also ensure that the site boundary treatment provide adequate protection to areas of ecological and landscaping importance. We also store all materials with a potential to pollute and cause harm appropriately in containers. We always attempt to use recycled materials wherever practical. Segregation of recyclable and reusable waste and the identification of suitable licensed waste carriers is a standard procedure. This includes assurance on appropriate waste handling, storage and transportation methods are implemented during the project. We always source locally wherever possible to reduce transportation requirements and to reduce the associated air emissions from fossil fuels. A small yet large part of our policy goal is to minimize disruption to the local community from noise and dust. These are all the ways we strive to achieve a more friendly and environmentally conscious company for a future green world.
